Sunglasses Guide – How to Choose the Right Sunglasses for You

A Guide to Choosing Sunglasses

Sunglasses are among the great fashion accessories.  You can find a style that gives you a unique image and displays your personal taste in fashion.  The shape of your face is one factor that should help you decide which style you should choose.  Whatever style you choose, getting a quality pair of sunglasses is a must.  Just remember, price is no guarantee of quality.  When you purchase high priced brand name sunglasses, you are paying for the name not the quality, in some cases.

Keep these factors in mind when choosing your next pair of sunglasses.

UV Protection

Ultraviolet radiation is a major contributor to eye disease and why it’s important to choose sunglasses that protect you from harmful UV rays.  This is the reason sunglasses were invented in the first place.

Having a dark tint on your glasses does not mean they have UV protection.  You need to check the UV rating to be sure.

Tint Colors

Tints are the colors that are applied to sunglass lenses to help reduce the light that makes contact with the eyes. The particular tint you choose is up to your personal taste. However, different tints will have a different effect on the perceived brightness and glare, and will distort color differently.

As an example, gray tints reduce glare and don’t distort the color. On the other hand, yellows lens will distort color but sharpen your perceived view.

Polarized sunglasses helps to reduce the glare from light which bounces off flat surfaces like pavement or water.  If you’ll be on the lake or river often, you’ll want to invest in polarized sunglasses.  Also, if you drive often.
